she wants to be a forest fire or a shark
a great wave-wall of water breaking on the backs of us all
lemon-sour, hot as the sun, rotting
she wants to be smoke and the light that comes in winter
the clenched fist rage of girls and boys, the look
of disgust and the look of love and the look of pain
the look that girls get when boys start to see their bras underneath clean white shirts
the first touch of hand to hand and lips to lips and teeth to teeth
she wants to be sugar, wants to taste like honey and plum powder
dead things that have turned black and soft and wet
so choke on her sweetness, never forget that
she is a forest fire
she is a shark
she is a great wave-wall of water breaking on the backs
of us all.
